Odnoklassniki: Looking for Classmates

Odnoklassniki.ru (Odnoklassniki means classmates in Russian) is a social network which has been recently launched (march, 2006). It was made by the developers who took part in creating passado.com (European social network). The great amount of users joined the service since March. Even me living in a small town with really poor internet access managed to find some old friends.

You can not only search for the classmates but also get some information about them, send messages and probably meet them offline.

So Odnoklassniki.ru is a multi-functional service, let’s go into details. Which tools and functions are offered to us? First it’s profiles with photos. You can add your personal info, schools, companies and even military service to your profile (may be also added in a free form). In  photos” section you can post several pics, one of which will be the main.

There are several ways of searching your old friends. For example search by first and last name (last name is enough). It shows the list of profiles and bulletins with required data. (By the way there is a possibility to post a bulletin). There is also photo search. You choose the city and get the pics of all users from this city. I think this way is effective enough when you can’t remember last name. Besides you can view all users who studied or worked at the place you did. By the way every school and work place has its own guestbook and photos section, where photos of students/employees are posted.

toodoo: the blog fans social network

ScreenShot306Toodoo is a new interesting Russian web 2.0 project set to launch during my absence. It’s a social network that aims to join different sites’ regulars, gradually growing into an interesting catalogue of links gathered by simple users.

It takes less than a minute to register. Email needs confirmation. Then you can add your personal information to your profile in a free form. You can also give your location, place of work, school and tag your interests. By these fields you’ll be able to search other users. However, it’s not the essence. The main thing here is that you share your favorite sites (upload using opml supported).

Every author can add his site to the system. If the site was added by another user, the author can claim his rights. The authorship is easily proved by putting toodoo code on the site. There are different code versions – you can choose either visible buttons and reader counter or invisible authorization line. The sample of user counter is shown on every Internet Pieces page (at the bottom of the side bar). As the author you can give your site description and tag it.
